Phimosis and paraphimosis is a narrowing of the foreskin of the penis. Phimosis is a narrowing above the glance of the penis, paraphimosis is a narrowing below the glance of the penis.
Due to phimosis, sexual intercourse is difficult. Over time, the skin can completely block the urethra and cause an acute urinary retention. Treatment of the disease is performed with circumcision surgery.
In the case of paraphimosis, the glance of the penis crawls through the narrowed foreskin, however the organ is squeezed. It causes pain and swelling of the penis. Ischemia is possible: blood supplying of the glance is terminated, tissue damage happens. This emergency condition requires immediate surgical intervention. As in the case of phimosis, circumcision is performed for paraphimosis. If it is impossible to immediately set the glance of the penis in the constricted ring, the foreskin is dissected. The glance of the penis is reset, and then circumcisio is performed.
